a happy thankful...when Elsie tells me that she is the jean mender!! I said..." wonderful!" π
Good day! Our day is sunny and the feel of the air is fall! ( I'm ready! Tyson and I are both ready for sweater weather!! ☺️ ) I just got in not too long ago, from walking to the mailbox....nice little stroll and no, no - one is ever alone! I passed various people, some looked like they had places to go and hurried along. One lady was deeply engaged in a Spanish conversation on the phone, another man overtook me, stepping spritely and faster than me....I noticed he was carrying a what appeared to be a heavy bag of groceries. I know that feeling too.... just hurry and get home with the load! Elsie came out of their apartment and I mentioned that I needed to show her a pair of jeans to mend....I wanted to get some light on the subject....refer to title and I was a happy camper!!! π I will give her a 2nd pair also!!
Ron, Alex and Tyson went on tract route today....I think they were driving to Staten Island. Ron just messaged and yes they went to Staten Island! Eating lunch at a diner! Spencer and David to Lincoln hospital! This evening is Tribeca service , and Ron told me that Alex says, it's probably Katz this evening for supper!!!
I've had small mountains of laundry today, busy weekends always produce that!!! Plus I cleaned up the house and did some other work.... listened to a couple of recordings of church services at Hesston yesterday. Once again, I know why I don't do that too often....I get sad.... and I don't want to be sad....we are glad to be serving here in NYC!! We do miss home and people sometimes...
Wednesday.... laundry, ironing shirts, make supper, Bible study and sing-out! And for added measure today...Ron reported that the social hall just reeked.... especially around the 1 fridge....so he looked and looked for the offending member.... whether it was mouse or rat or what?? Couldn't find... Elsie looked....I went down and after a bit, noticed a very rotten sweet potato in the crisper drawer!! AND it smelled BAD!! So I chucked that and tried to clean up fridge.... but the smell lingered. Ron put ground coffee grinds in there and that appears to have done the trick!! Bible study... Spencer chose a lesson on God's plan of salvation and we had 5 attendees. Tony, Peter, Alistair, Eric and Dede. Hardly a silent moment, interesting discussion! We had supper late.... after 9:40....Peter and Tony both love to talk.... it's ok, we are here for them! Ron and I had supper ready when the guys did come upstairs. Creamy chicken and rice casserole, watermelon, banana muffins and green beans! The guys ate the whole watermelon π!! A nice sized one.... times spent around the table, just the 6 of us ... yield some pretty awesome memories! Like playing and saying, Zip, Bing and Bang without showing your teeth!! Once you show your teeth, you are out!
Thursday...it was right after lunch, we heard the door open and close and rapid footsteps on the stairs....Ron and I looked at each other?? Soon hurried footsteps back down with a stop off in the kitchen for a drink.... It was David, he says with a grin, it was for the sake of common public decency, that he came home, the back of britches were split.... pretty big tear!!! After the guys got home from work, they changed clothes and went shopping! We met them down in Brooklyn for supper at Paulie Gee's! The pizza went down really well!!! π It was lightly raining as we left and we all went home!! They met up with some strange man, or maybe strange ways....or maybe a false prophet! He blended protein and spiritual living, had some crazy posters that made no sense! He did ask the boys about the 2nd coming of Christ and boys told him, they were ready!
Lonnie and Carolee Penner arrived very early on Friday morning to spend a few days in the city with Rogers. It was so good to see them and visit with them! Brought back SD days!!!!
Friday was just the usual house cleaning and laundry day!! After work, guys played tennis and came home for supper! Ron grilled pork tenderloins, I added sweet potato fries, green salad and bread sticks. They also brought home some little corn bread muffins from the pantry, plus some chocolate bars....dark salty chocolate, even vegan friendly!! Guys showered up and then spent the evening at Clay's, playing games! They said Dana made chocolate chip cookies, I say she makes her signature cookies!!!! Ron and I stayed home, spent some of the evening, watching a small part of NYC parade in front of our apartment!
Saturday, was supposed to be the day that, guys, Clay and Ron went deep sea fishing, well out on a boat, out in the bay.... anyway. It was cancelled already on Friday, by the Captain, he said the waves were too big!!!?? It was a perfect day, but neither do we know all the ends and outs of everything!! So I made breakfast, guys did their cleaning chores and the we left late morning. We walked the Williamsburg bridge, hadn't walked it yet....it was 85* and the humidity almost did us in!!! Nice walk....we got our chuckles about the Orthodox Jews, who were also coming or going on the bridge! With their tendrils, white shirts and otherwise black clothes....and in that extreme heat, they are wearing long black over coats....and one man even strided by us , with rather a unquie furry hat on!!! From the bridge, we walked....idk..... must have 10 blocks or so. Alex didn't have the patience to wait on a bus! Finally we arrived at the place, called Smorgasburg....in Brooklyn. A laid back, chiller kind of version of Queens night market. Booths, but not near as many as night market. Ron and I got empanadas and churro' s from a Brazil booth. Plus I got a mango/ Vermont maple syrup/ lemonade π. That slid down real easily! After that Ron and I came home and relaxed!!! Got caught in a rain shower, did have umbrellas with, rain just came down fast and hard and with wind, so still got wet!! Guys came home, we all qshowered up and got in van and drove to Queens, stopping at John Brown's BBQ. It is Kansas City style BBQ!! We felt just a little more at home there! Alex really wanted to go to a BBQ restaurant called Dinosaur BBQ. But we didn't check soon enough, and couldn't get reservations there anymore! Martha's bakery is right close by, so dined there yet! It was interesting to watch how many times, Door dash and the Grubhub came in for take out!!! On home, guys went to Target yet and when we got even with Rogers apartment, Elsie invited us in for popcorn. It was neat to be with Lonnie's... after we left, guys came home and then spent some time with Rogers and Lonnie's also. ( It was Rogers 63rd birthday!! )
Sunday...Ron awoke early and heard the rain in the gutter, knew at 6 am his alarm would ring and he would go grill sliced ham!!! He wore his rain jacket and just grilled anyway! I fixed the usual baked oatmeal and put cinnamon rolls on also. We were 25 in church.... guys, Kendon's and Clay's sang....SS opening by Kendon, sermon by Lonnie....he read scriptures out of Romans and we were blessed with his thoughts! Lunch was grilled ham, flavored mashed potatoes, green salad and bread. Peach crisp for dessert, with whipped cream. Dishes, visiting... Kendon's and Ron and I headed over to 5th Street.... visited FAO Schwarz toy store!!!! A very fascinating high end toy store!! The " newborn babies " were tops on my list....so very real like!!! Lots and lots of high priced toys! Also went to the LEGO store. Ron and I went across the street to St Patrick's Cathedral... Organ was playing, masses of people in there. Some kneeling at prayer benches....but seems like a cold vain religion. We found a coffee shop yet...Blue bottle, down in Rockefeller center. On home...my turn to make supper. I wrapped over 100 pigs in blankets, veggie tray with dip, assorted chips and Oreo ice cream dessert. Clay's, guys, Tony and Shelly went to Coney Island. Simone went with them, until his station to get off at. Home all evening.... games were played!
I keep falling asleep while blogging! π₯± So end of letter, beginning of nap!!
Love to all, Mama Carol
