It's Monday, so that means laundry....and various other duties that take my time and effort!
Hello! Nice day here in the city. I'll get started on my blog, not promising no finish today . This evening is Jordan's eat out and he has made reservations for 6. So that means we leave the house at 5 or so.
Quote of the week:
A little girl was holding 2 apples, her mother asked for one. The girl quickly bit one apple, and then the other. Her mother held back her disappointment. Then the girl handed one to her saying: " Here this is the sweeter one." Moral: Never Judge.
Last Tuesday, supper was early and Clay's joined us and Alex did the cooking! He grilled steaks and baked sweet potato fries and stirred up a mean fry sauce. Dana brought a Caesar salad. All was good! Like it felt like we were eating in the middle of the afternoon.....for us anyway! Left the house shortly after 5:30 and caught the A train and rode a long ways.... basically down to Rockaway Beach.... caught a shuttle train somewhere in there, did some walking and arrived down where a water taxi then takes you back up to Wall Street. Bought tickets and most of us bought ice cream from a truck....Ron bought 2 cones and it was hot outside and no matter how fast and furious you licked.....it was still messy! We ended up hucking the cones into the trash, before they became a all time mess. We boarded the water taxi, went to the top deck, but actually ended up standing for most of the ride back. Ron and I tried to squish beside this oversized dude, who only had eyes for his screen in front of him ( I'm not sure why people like that, who aren't looking up and out anyway, don't just go sit on lower deck, in the middle and look at their old screen!) one beef of mine!!!!!! 😀 Anyway, as the golden ball of a sun slipped into the horizon, truly awesome....we then, once again, beheld the beauty, the picture, the scene that I never get tired of! The NYC skyline!! We slipped by Breezy Point, where we worked, when we were here, numbers of years ago. ( CDR) we went by Coney Island and then slipped up to dock by Wall Street! Memories, evenings and scenes like that....my inspiration, my, this why I love the city and this is why, I'm glad I'm here! Evenings like that, is why we choose to work through the darkness, dirt, germs and grime and crime....why we sing about Jesus, pass out tracts, go about our lives and thank the Lord for sending us here! Came on home and us 6 tuned into some music for awhile yet and practice for Wednesday evening.
Wednesday evening was Bible study and sing-out! Dede and Eric joined us...Alex wrote a lesson on Prayer and we had a good time discussing the lesson! Supper was later and this evening I made chicken/bacon wraps, using sun dried tomato basil tortillas. 2 of the guys went to bed and the other 2 sat up and had some spiritual discussions....one had the Mirror of Truth and the other one had Strong's concordance!!! We sat and listened.....😊
Thursday morning was shopping morning! All went okay and it seems like we pretty well have the shopping down to a fine art! If we spy a cart while driving up, I jump out and nab it!! The elevator to take to the 2nd floor isn't real large, and this time I walked in with my cart and a couple was already in there....then another man was going to get his cart in also....he told me to move over... once we were all in, then the elevator doors opened back up...and the lady turns to the last man to enter and told him to get his booty inside, that would help! We all thought amusing, but he didn't even grin! 😁
Thursday evening, Alex's family was to arrive and they didn't! We were all disappointed...East Coast had some storms and that pretty well messed up air travel. AND they only arrived at 9:30 on Friday evening, flying from Dallas to Miami and up too JFK. Alex drove the mission van to go get them and their luggage did go to La Guardia, so had to run around there and pick it up!!! Kind of a mess! And we love them... lovely people!!!!! They arrived hungry and it was 11:30 or so, they raided fridge and snacks!!
Saturday they were gone all day.....we met them for supper at Julianna's..... our other 3 guys spent the day at the Bronx zoo!!! Acted like it was a good day! Ron and I were home till mid afternoon and we went to walk the High Line.... lovely, so many others said they would do the same thing! We got some gelato while out walking...and then walked to Hudson Yards and watched people!
So back on the train headed home from Jordan's eat out...he picked Celestine, said like Palestine, only the S sound at first....it was Mediterranean cuisine.....we had flat bread with hummus, olives, a chili red pepper sauce and something else... not sure what? Guys then ordered a octopus platter to share....fried crispy....Papa tried it....Mama didn't! Our entree's were varied.... chicken, ribeye, trout and pork chops. Then we had dessert yet.....I had a scoop of salted caramel ice cream!!! Then next came their in house mints, white chocolate with cranberries. Very good! We made friends with our waiter.....Alex left out before the rest of us, gonna meet his family again! They ate at Francus Tavern and gonna ride a water taxi.
Okay, now back to Sunday....the Koehn- family made breakfast.... French toast, caramel syrup and sausage and bacon. It was very good! Always makes me feel like a guest in my own house!!!! Roger went to the women's shelter and escorted 4 women back for church! With Alex's family, Rueben 's and Papa from Poughkeepsie, locals and all of us.... besides Bernice flew back to KS for her Uncle Ed Dirks funeral. The singing sounded so good! Anthony brought the opening and us ladies went upstairs and had a most interesting time! The Montrose CO ladies thought it was a breath of fresh air! Papa Isaac brought the message...Be not deceived, God is not mocked, whatsoever a man soweth, that he shall reap. I think Troy or Chris would have had sermon thoughts also. Lunch was roast beef and crockpot potatoes, green salad and bread. Dessert....fun conversations! Kitchen clean- up and dishes. Alex and his family left....Tony and Shelly, Clay's, Kendon's and us spent the rest of the afternoon and evening out in the back yard! Rogers did some of the time. Clay's grilled hamburgers, made baked beans and had chips with...oh yes watermelon too. Roger had ice cream sandwiches for dessert! End of day....4 guys came from Fleetwood in the afternoon and our guys and them hung out in the city and for supper.....they also went to Martha's bakery!
So we are home, stopped by Foodtown for cereal and Oreos!!!! 😋 Alex's family needs to get up early to be at the airport for a 8:30 departure....so setting out cereal and bread for toast! Troy loves cereal and Oreos!!!
So I think I'm gonna sign off...
Love to all, Mama Carol
