Good times with company! 💖
Good morning from the city! It's another beautiful, clear & lovely day here in the city!!! Been having some awesome weather! Well it's Tuesday, another week has passed us by and another week to blog! 😃
A quote to start:
" Speak words that rebuild the torn down places in others." ....it seems like I need so many reminders...to ALWAYS be kind and compassionate!
Another peek into our lives.... last Tuesday, I blogged.... David was the chef for supper and I think I said he was doing Indian food, not so....he made Marry Me Chicken, a recipe his sister helped him with! It is served over noodles and very tasty! Of course the name of the dish, attracted some interesting discussion!!! 😁 After supper, we all jumped in the van and drove to Astoria in Queens to Martha's bakery. Didn't disappoint! We sat outside and I ordered a chocolate chunk cookie and it came to me, warm, gooey and very inviting!!! 🍪 Once home, we practiced songs for sing out!
Wednesday evening was Bible study, we had a new person stop in....she had been noticing our church sign and was on her way home from the grocery store. Eva was her name and a very pleasant lady! She shared some in the discussion and seemed to know her Bible and seems to have a relationship with God! Alistair and Tony were the other attendees. Tyson chose a lesson on Joy and Happiness and a lively discussion ensued! Sing out went fine....bummers that the stream had issues and w didn't know that for four songs! Supper was baked sausage, flavored mashed spuds, Red lobster biscuits and green salad. Peaches, ice cream and leftover angel food cake, if wanted!
Thursday was a normal shopping morning, all went well and rest of day appears normal! Ron did take the cover off of the dryer, it had started running SO noisy, day before....well it ran quiet after that.....and has since.🤞We ate a early supper of smash burgers and baked sweet potato fries and then left on a train headed to Rockaway Beach. Hurricane Erin was blowing up the Atlantic coast and causing some HUGE waves! Rogers, Laurence's and Clays all went down also! After a long commute, we got off at beach 44 and Clay and Dana were waiting there for us! We watched the waves for awhile and then boarded a train and wended ourselves home! I had baked a pan of brownies and sliced peaches, so we had dessert yet!
Friday morning was exciting!!!! We got up usual time and mostly got breakfast on for the boys.... they needed to fry their eggs yet! I also got the laundry started....Ron and I left at 8:00 to drive to LaGuardia!! Weston, LaNae, Olivia, Cayden and Brylee flew in from Colombus Ohio, a direct flight. It was so easy, they need to come again!!! 😃 ( I'm thinking maybe both Doyle's and Weston's will surely come twice!!!!! 😍) Anyway it also felt so good to not hide!!! We just could stand at the down escalator and be visible!!! 😂 ( The guys usually don't want Mama to give it all away to a new boy!! ) So good to see them and Brylee was so excited to be here!! We waited and waited on their luggage, only to be at the wrong carousal!! We drove to Jackson Hole for breakfast, we've eaten there many times for supper, but never for breakfast! It was yummy good! On home, toured the whole place, left and took a bus to Bronx Pantry to meet the guys!!! ( And Ray and Jose ) Came back, more laundry...I had to squish laundry in whenever we were home! Went to Penn Station and ate tacos. Then we walked to Hudson Yards and walked the High Line to Chelsea Market and Starbuck reserve. From there we went to the Oculus and to see the pools. Then on over to One World. Weston bought tickets for 7:00. What a view and such a clear view of the city!!! We were up there until sunset was over and the great golden ball sank! Brylee crashed, beyond tired and it's possible we did too much, with the early hour that they got up!!! ❤️ We went home from there and quickly made easy tacos and sliced peaches. Weston ended up not eating supper either, was in bed with a headache!!
Saturday morning, I fixed Dutch babies and peach smoothies for breakfast.... guys ate with us....we were gone for all day again.... Liberty Island and Ellis Island.... called our names! Rewarding views and many things to see! Ate lunch on Ellis Island. The guys did their cleaning chores and then went to a rock climbing gym. Sounded like they had fun! They met us for supper at Julianna's....we walked the Brooklyn Bridge after supper and got gelato at Penn Station!! Came home exhausted after another fun day!! ( Guys went to Clay and Dana for supper on Friday evening, sounded like they had tacos. Later went to a coffee shop. )
Sunday morning....and it was Bowery Sunday!!! My turn to cook, but had it easy.... remember last Bowery, way too much chalupa?? Well we pulled it out of the freezer and guess what, still too much chalupa!!! I did ask Dana, if she had been praying over it????!!🥺 But sometimes food has a way of disappearing and I try hard not to think about it no more!! 😃 Why we fixed so much for a army, I do not know!!!!! Anyway, breakfast was baked oatmeal and cinnamon rolls.... cheese and the last of the peaches from PA....sob.... Ready for church and ready for the multitude that descended on us....I think we were 52-53 some humans. Weston's were company, ( Laurence's went to Poughkeepsie) It was Shippinsburg turn to come our way....and they brought 16, 17, 18??? Not sure! One highlight of the Shippinsburg people was, that there was 2 familiar girls.... Quentin and Lisa's daughter from Sedgwick is a teacher, Brittany by name....so she was there and also her married sister from Mississippi, never did meet her. Then after church, this girl steps up to me and says she wants to meet me....her mother told her too!!! And she was Alexa Koehn from Arthur!! Justin and Jaidi's girl!!! So that was neat. The youth singing before church was good. Oh and besides our locals, we had more visitors! Rob Penners from Hesson Ontario and they have 6 children, plus a Deanna by name she is from the DR and a Lisa lady, who lives in CT, and is also a native of DR was there with 3 children. This Lisa is not of our Faith. These Penners had been touring NYC and Lisa was their guide. Rob Penner brought the opening. I taught SS to the littles, was organized chaos!!! 😂 This Lisa has twin girls, and the one talked most of the time! She did raise her hand some...one time, she had something to tell me....she said there is no soda pop to drink, only water!!!! Rueben Oberholtzer from Shippinsburg brought the sermon, entitled The work of God ...it was good, Rueben kept us on our toes, never knew what he might say next!! He was talking about glorified rice at one point! Lunch....a whole bunch sat outside.... besides pork chalupa, we had rice, chips, salsa and guacamole.... cheese, sour cream etc. Fruit salads and dessert. At 2:15, we all left to sing in the 42nd street subway station....it was real warm in there again!!! Sang and sang...oh from Shippinsburg, was also a single lady, Marlene Oberholtzer and a married lady....Marion Nolt, whose husband stayed home because of a greenhouse or ? To Bowery from there.... youth sang and Weston brought the good thoughts!! We parted ways with the rest of the group.... Kendon's, Rogers and our 4 boys had supper together ( pizza ordered in ) Clays went on home to listen to Lonetree in the evening. The pizza party group tried to listen to Dexter's NYC report also. Said the stream was somewhat iffy! Anyway, we went to Francus Tavern for supper, it was so good and we just relaxed!! From there to the Staten Island ferry and views did not disappoint!!! Especially coming back to the city, awww.....I will never tire of the lights on city view! From there on home.... visited with the guys yet.
Monday morning... Weston was breakfast chef... pancakes and scrambled eggs! Super good...LaNae crashed and wasn't feeling well and stayed in bed till almost 10 or so.... I did laundry, made banana muffins and quickly made loaded nachos and put carrots on the table for lunch. Then we went to Central Park and Times Square for just a bit at each place! Had gelato and went to Krispy Kreme at Times Square!! We don't always think about food, nor always eat!!! 😃 Came on home, they packed out and did some cleaning... visited with the guys and Ron and I made supper. We had it early, like shortly after 5. Grilled chicken, baked macaroni and banana muffins. We got up from the table and took Weston's to LaGuardia! All good things come to a end! They had a safe flight back to Ohio....we came on home to a cleaned up kitchen and dishes washed!!! Alex was the hero!!!! 😊 Food put away.... they went to a nearby park and played tennis. Ron and I cleaned, finished laundry etc. Also practiced songs for sing out.
This pm, home from Lincoln, had a decent day singing for patients....Ron cleaned out the grill real good!! Tyson is cooking this evening!!
We remain happy to be here and serving the Lord!
Love, Mama Carol
