A departure and a arrival... and life moves on! 🛫🛬
Hello! Another day, another week...how about that? Been busy with laundry, did a little house cleaning and some other little odds and ends that need doing! Like putting coins in roll wrappers, once Ron takes it in, a little extra for the slush fund! We all throw our coins into this glass container!
Sunny day, on the warm side... after lunch, Ron and I walked to the Post office and mailed off 2 packages. The air con felt good upon returning!
Alex and Tyson are home, been on a walking hand out tract tour today! Been in the Bronx today and went to a crab place for lunch and to Chick- fil- A for a peach shake.. Spencer and David spending the day at Lincoln and not home yet! This evening we have Tribeca service, so plan on leaving around 6. I hope Clay and Dana join us! Supper later....
A quote today surrounding Dennis the menace!!
" My mom says I look like an angel when I'm sleeping. It's the awake part I keep havin' trouble with. " 😂 Me too!
Tuesday, August 5, early in the morning...Kian Asher Dirks was ushered into this world and we all rejoiced in his coming! Our 3rd grandson and 9 grandchildren... including Angel baby Mavery Elyn! We are thankful that Rod's parents could go and be a help there! Would love to see the little guy on person!!
Tuesday morning early... Alex's family flew back to Montrose! So good to have you all!! A day at home, doing home duties.... except for heading to Lincoln to sing. It was men's Bowery service in the evening.... Clay and Dana were already sitting there, when we arrived! Alex led the Bible study that evening, lesson was on "What kind of God is this? " Ate supper at Balzem, a Mediterranean restaurant. Ron and I shared chicken skewers with flat bread....it was good,! Then of all things we went to Martha's bakery yet!! I ordered 2 French Macarons! Delightful! Home late...
Wednesday evening for supper, Kendon's and Clay's joined us.... like at 6:00. Well Kendon's got here sometime mid afternoon. We practiced songs before supper...Ron grilled pork tenderloins, I baked potatoes and carrots mixture, green salad and zucchini bread. Kaitlyn brought a pan of bars. Everyone down for Bible study... Spencer wrote a lesson: Gain is loss... discussion was amazing! Animated at times! Eric, Tony and Dede were also in attendance. Jordan left for the airport, his 2 brothers Justin and Corey came back and also their first cousin David. Those young men came to spend some time with Jordan and to fly back home with him! Once they were home from the airport, they were starving Marvin's yet, so went out for pizza yet! We yakked a little with them, on our way to bed!
Thursday morning, I fixed breakfast for us 9....the 3 came down ( our guys) and no Jordan, nor his buddies.....they overslept...intentions were noble!! Not a big problem, left a note, where breakfast was and they could help themselves! Ron and I went shopping!! 5 of us for supper, out of Sunday roast beef, I created Barbacoa tacos.... they were yummy... added cilantro rice....we went with the boys to Fort Tryon for the evening, was a beauty of a evening! We walked, watched the sun set, behind the trees, guys tossed a football. The boys walked on, and Ron and I chose to bask in the fading twilight glow...of another day well spent. I was sitting on a ledge/ wall and Ron was standing beside me... when this couple approached us ...friendly, kind of acting like they knew us, what we did in the city etc. Wondered how things were going in Harlem....so anyway long story short, their names are Phil and Addie...they have a apartment close to Fort Tryon, and yet still own a house in the Bronx....she is a Bronx gal!! She said she knows about Mennonites, when Ron started to explain and had heard about us, through the grapevine! She used to be The Pilgrim Way....I shared my contact with Addie and Ron gave Phil a card from the mission. But was most astounding....we said we lived in KS, then Phil turns to Addie and asks, " where in KS is that college that has the flight simulator in their aviation program???" Hesston college....and our jaws drop and we said, " that's our town, that is where we came from!!!!" She worked at the college for a number of years!! She felt it was divine intervention that we crossed paths....they left their apartment, because he was trying to hook her new computer to the Internet and it didn't work! Then in the park, he suggested they go one way, and she the other!! She is dark and he was white...she is 70....she is wanting direction from God, on how to plan her life from here on out....so she tells God she is 70....her daughter tells her, you don't have to tell God you are 70, he knows that!! Interesting and made our evening feel very worthwhile!
By Friday evening, we were just the 4 of us. Jordan and his relatives were out and about...Alex met Austin, Alana Koehn and their family. They are from Montrose. Seemingly Austin's were on some 3 week road trip. So anyway, Papa made reservations at Empire Diner for Spencer, David and us ... earliest time, when he booked them was 8:30. We hadn't ever been there, was good eating and we sat outside. That atmosphere is always neat, city like with traffic cruising close by... from there we must have walked 10 blocks or more.... just took our time, looked up, talked....to Penn Station and got GELATO!!! It was a special evening.....
We have long days and many short nights...( Almost sounds like a Mom with her little ones! :) ) Just naps at times for nights, early morning alarms, this time it was to hug and say goodbye to Jordan!!!! Like 4:10 am.....it was back to bed for awhile.... because we had a BUSY Saturday.....rooms to clean upstairs, beds to completely wash....well everything but the mattress!!! 😀 Guest quarters to clean, but David was just scrubbing the bathroom in guest quarters, when I got up there.... because he said he wanted too! We all worked hard and we got it all done! 2 pans of lasagna made ... headed to La Guardia around 5... Tyson Nace from Greensburg flew the friendly skies to join us!! Of course the unit boys wander around and try to stay unnoticed...we hang back.... anyway Tyson collected his luggage and headed out....a taxi man asked him, if he needed taxi, and all Tyson understood....was what sounded like his name! So he put his luggage in the trunk, got in the back seat!! He didn't know if this was part of the gig or what? The driver asked for his address and then he decided to get out! Alex rescued him.... Had to " find ' Spencer and David....and we picked them up in front!! Dined at Jackson Hole for supper and on home! Later evening, we all went down to Rogers and put together tracts for Monday!!! Had a jolly good time! Kinder chocolate, popcorn and beverage of choice!
Sunday @ 2am....ruckus, NOISE and so we waited for 17 minutes and then it was quiet! Some later, another alarm, and then some later again....found out later, that Tyson just hit the snooze!!! In the morning we get a full report and laughter reigns!! Everyone in good spirits! Tyson really didn't fall into a deep sleep before the ruckus.......
Quiet morning in church, beautiful singing, opening by Kendon, SS and sermon by Roger. O that men would praise the Lord!! 23 for lunch... lasagna, Texas toast, Caesar salad and fruit salad. Salted caramel rice Krispy squares. Fun fellowship! Kendon's, Clay's and the 4 boys went to Fort Tryon and Met Cloisters. Ron and I, Roger and Elsie and Eric.... we cooked and did BBQ!! We were 17 for supper....when Louis put in our mini splits, he and his crew were promised a BBQ.... but just Louis, his wife Mary and son Josh came!! Ron grilled steak and chicken, I baked tator's and made green salad and Elsie made strawberry shortcake with strawberries and whipped cream. Roger and Eric roasted sweet corn, and we had Mexican topping...Mayo with chili lime...and that special cheese. Louis built a big pan of rice....a HUGE supper! Ate outside in the back yard! After supper we listened to Louis's experience in finding God and Jesus and being delivered from the devil. He was into witchcraft, as his father passed it down to him. He was told that God wasn't finished with him yet! A remarkable amazing deliverance! He is now a street preacher.... nice family....he is formerly from the DR. Louis led in prayer, before they left. Handshakes all around and it was such a good evening....he took all my leftover tator's!! Clean-up, but everyone got involved! End of day, found us 6 just visiting in our apartment before calling it a day! We assured Tyson, not all Sundays like this one....we didn't add, some may be worse!!!!
This is now Monday evening, had service at Tribeca, then ate out supper at Bubby's....a variety of food was eaten....from pancakes and chicken, rib eyes, a hamburger and tomato soup and grilled cheese. ( Had a nice service, bigger crowd than sometimes...I counted up to 25 at one point. After the service, a lady steps up Alex and wonders if we do personal prayers, then she had a long list for Alex to pray for. He humbly prayed with her, but didn't include all the items...I wondered, if he would remember all that she asked!!! )
Well tomorrow is our morning off, yeah!!!
Love and prayers, courage to all, Mama Carol
