Good warm greetings to each of you! HOT, would be better said! It's 98*, with a real feel of 104*! Our apartment feels good though!
Quote to share with you...
The real luxuries in life:
time
health
a quiet mind
slow mornings
ability to travel
rest without guilt
a good nights sleep
calm and " boring" days
meaningful conversations
home cooked meals
people you love
people who love you back
Singing at the hospital.... it's a special time, although at times it seems like the encounters are few! But I also know, that we will never know what a song, smile and a bit of cheer, how and when that it will have a impact on someone's life! This afternoon, we stopped at one room and no they were not interested at all, but the nurse stopped me in the hallway, and said so and so in the bed by the window will....he was right, lady relatives were reading in the Bible and yes, they gladly listened.... another lady sang along, although it would be a stretch to call it singing!!!!! But God is interested in a joyful noise!! Last week, we went to see Ms Taylor and Damaris....and well that is always a crazy time....those ladies are so goofy! 😂
It's fun to go to a new coffee shop....guys were telling us about the Sugar Hill cafe.... situated down some narrow concrete steps, mostly in a basement.... just a tiny little place, but Ron enjoyed his chai and I had matcha lemonade!
Guys cooking..... this evening is Alex's turn and he is grilling steaks.... last Tuesday evening was Jordan's....he made Ritz cracker chicken fingers, sweet and white potatoes mixed and baked. Fruit tray, decorated just as pretty as any woman does it!! AND a huge big green salad!!!
I talked about rats at the beginning....no fun, but we are having a infestation!!!!!! The pest control company has come out twice to gas the burrows....but our neighbor to our left, isn't doing a blooming thing about those rodents, so go figure!! They are in front too, digging around in the flower plants..... Roger is trying to figure out what to do......
Bible study and sing-out.....Eric Pobee, Eric Iverson and DeDe were in attendance. As well as Kendon's....they all of a sudden dropped in.... coming home from a tract run to Long Island.... Jordan chose to have whoever wanted too, hand in Bible verses and questions or inspiration about that verse. We just worked on Eric and Eric's verses. ( Pobee and Iverson ) Supper was grilled beef/ bacon roll ups.
We have the Thursday shopping down to a fine art!! Speedy quick.....and back home we go!!!
Doyle, Monica, Jenna, Savannah and Tyce arrived around 3:00 in the afternoon on July 24th....so GOOD to see them! We were standing outside, Ron also stood in a parking spot, so they could have a place to park....so many new things to discover and explore! Subways, we went down to the Oculus and pools by the 911 museum.... supper was at Fraunces Tavern....we really enjoyed that again, as did Doyle's. Then we walked down to Staten Island ferry and took that ride... beautiful view of the Statue of Liberty... coming back into NYC.was awesome!!! We stood in the front of the ship and let the water spray!! On home after that....( Guys were invited to Clay's for supper and the evening! Only got home late. ) Next day, stayed home till laundry was mostly completed. Then we went to Bellivedere Castle in Central Park, off to Penn Station for lunch, picked the taco shop inside for coolness and it was COLD, with our sweaty clothes on! And then we went to Anita's for gelato!!! It melted fast.....🥵 afternoon was spent in the 911 museum. Some of us enjoyed the museum better then others....Tyce wasn't near as appreciative! He ended up taking a nap on a bench! Met the guys at Julianna's for pizza....and then we walked the Brooklyn Bridge.....SO many people..... there was already so many humans to watch out for...so many vain humans that must primp just so for this picture....they all of a sudden just stop.... it's a good thing, they don't get run over!! Then there are the vendors yet....selling all their wares!
Home from there....a complete tired out bunch!
Saturday was our day to go to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island! Again, so many humans, the way we are herded through lines, it made you feel animal like!!!!!😜 Being inside Lady Liberty was neat....ate lunch at Crown Cafe....pizza and chicken tenders......Ron and I also shared a delightful mango/pineapple fruit smoothie, it was slushy and delicious and hit the spot!! To the Liberty museum, then over to Ellis Island..... I was exhausted and it was me who sat on a bench and took a nap!!!! After we were done there, again stood in line to board the boat!!! Some people are rude, some people are kind...we enjoyed visiting with some folks from Wisconsin.....we came home for grilled hamburgers with fried potatoes! Monica brought garden produce along!!! Awesome good! Guys went to Queens night market, Elizabeth and Josiah also went there and later Clay's showed up and the guys went to Clay's apartment for awhile again!
Sunday.....was a big day.... our turn to cook! So we made pork chalupa and we had/ have enough for a small army and still do!! Ron set his alarm for 3:00 am to check on the meat...we were back up at 6! It was Bowery Sunday, so 23 people's came from Mifflinburg! 21 youth and Dave and Tyanne Wengered..... one of the youth boys had SS opening, I taught my grandchildren and Olivia their SS lesson on Abraham and Sarah.... Doyle brought the message....Fear not, God will be with us.... Lunch was chalupa with all the toppings and rice....we hadn't had it ever that way....chips of course too. Fruit salads and dessert. I think we were 47 people and we have chalupa left for another small army!!!! It all went into the freezer! We went to 42nd subway station and sang there.....it was toasty warm/ hot, but we sang our hearts out! Most people appreciate it, one man put his thumb down! For the Gospel sake, we just smile! Over to Bowery.... good service there too....Dave Wengered had the thoughts there on the Bible....we left and went to Grand Central station and showed Doyle's around and feasted on Joey Bats... proclaimed good!! Home....needed supper yet...so had nachos, salami, brownies and ice cream! The guys went to Rogers for awhile and put together tracts, Elsie made them strawberry shortcake....they had eaten supper at a Chinese restaurant with Kendon's and Clay's. Later when the guys came back...we all visited together and had a great time! Doyle's enjoyed the interaction with the guys!!
Monday... Monica made breakfast for me! Biscuits and sausage gravy....yeah and yummy good!! They packed out, did some cleaning and then we had to say goodbye!!! We enjoyed the few short days very much! Thanks again for coming! I had a Monday full of laundry and we cleaned house!!! Supper was baked sausage and garden goodness from Monica, guys enjoyed the cucumber salad, fresh green beans and yellow squash!! We practiced songs in the evening!! And goofed off, some more than others!!!! 😀
You know the Hearth and Home issue has issues this time, because of the printer error! I only got 34 August/ September issues in the mail 📬!!!!!!! So how now??? Really no sense to send them back.... printer is issuing new magazines to all congregations!!! 😁 I guess the ladies here can all have a copy!
Supper is early this evening, headed out after supper....taking the A train clear down to Rock Away and bringing a water taxi back to Wall Street and then on home! Clay's also going! Fun!!
Later, have a good week!
Love, Mama Carol
