...the skies are gray day after day, the city is blessed with rain!
Good morning! Like my title proclaims, rain...I told Ron this morning, that maybe I should accept the weather, I'm adding now...in a greater degree of appreciation and generally, no complaints!! I do long and love sunny skies, it seems like I'm more of a fair weather person!! But one thing about it, the rain washes the dirty streets and sidewalks, so indeed grateful for that!
My day to relax some and enjoy some time " off"!! Alex is cooking this evening , he has white BBQ chicken marinating in the fridge. It's also our day to head to Lincoln to sing . Wade and Alex headed to Bowery early this morning, Jordan and Spencer to Lincoln....they were all supposed to be there for a 10:00 meeting with someone in the ED department, which Wade and Alex reported never materialized!!!
I could say about last Tuesday evenings meal... Jordan grilled lamp chops and chicken drumsticks....wild rice and grilled asparagus! It was good and enjoyed by all!! Only the 2nd time I've had lamb in my life!!
Bible study last Wednesday evening was attended by DeDe, Alistair, Eric and Peter, a man that also volunteers at the pantries. Spencer chose a lesson on compassion. Had a very" interesting " discussion with some varying degrees and opinions on the subject! Sing- out... supper was chicken taquitos, 1 pan burned...none eatable! Cheese sauce, Mexican rice and guacamole and chips.
On Thursday morning, Ron and the guys, well 3 of them.... went with Alistair to a NCS meeting. Breakfast was served and they listened to a speaker. Ron wasn't so sure he would ever go again! It was interesting and all that.... but wasn't sure he was going back! When he got home, we went and did our weekly shopping!! We went to BJ's, Food Bazaar and Target. The meat counter in Food Bazaar is a good place to buy fresh meat! Fixed baked sausage and baked sweet potatoes for supper. Quickly cleaned up the kitchen and Ron and I walked to Riverside Park, down 145th.... Wanted to watch the sunset, missed that by some minutes, but was such a lovely/ awesome evening anyway.... just soaked up the beauty before heading back home. Guys went to ride the Staten Island ferry and stopped by Raising Canes for some more food!!!!
( Back from Lincoln, we walked to and fro.... light rain ...I used a umbrella, Ron didn't! Had a nice time singing...my favorite today was in pediatrics....a cute boy.... maybe 8? Had a cute teddy bear in bed with him....he had the same name as one of my grand boys....we sang, This little light of mine, with the actions and he watched us very intensely.... nothing to say, but nodded when we talked to him! Was very precious! In another room, the man seemed confused as to what prayer and a song meant? So we sang, What a friend we have in Jesus and Jordan led in prayer! So now he knows.....)
Note to self, never use the garbarater ever again! When we moved in here, Roger and Elsie cautioned us on the use thereof....but here it was over 6 months and no plug up yet. So this morning, I dumped some leftovers down, ran plenty of water.....uhoh.....a big problem resulted in their kitchen sink. You can imagine with me, how stupid I feel for all the mess and hassle! I even wondered while I was doing it.....🥺 Watson's plumbing is here as we speak! I shall use the trash can for all future food deposits and just regard the appliance underneath the kitchen sink as just a filler in the cabinet!! What do they say, a word to the wise is sufficient!! 😄
Friday....a long day of work for the boys.... like only home @ 6:50 for supper. I think they invited themselves to Clays for the evening....so they hurried off after supper! Ron and I went to Chelsea Market, just to get out of the house, people watched and each ate a Joey Bat!!!
Saturday morning started out slow and relaxing, in fact we had a late breakfast and we were still at the breakfast table, when Roger messaged. Alistair wanted to leave at 11, and go to the High Bridge water tower. Seemingly 1 Saturday or Sunday a month, they open up this tower for tours. Sure, we wanted to go...so we quickly got ready. Guys didn't go, had their weekly cleaning chores to attend too and they made the decision to stay home! It rained and rained....so it was the 5 of us.... Rogers, Alistair and us....had to wait on line, but once inside, we got a brief history lesson of the tower and then we climbed the 179 or was 174 steps to the lookout. A spiral staircase. Awesome views, although not clear, because of the rain. We decided to walk the High Bridge yet and then we walked another 30 minutes or so ...back to close by the Yankee stadium. There is a little Mexican restaurant called San Jose and in we walked for a late lunch! I enjoyed my taco's....on home from there. Met the guys for supper at Applebee's on 59th, I think it was....Ron dropped a pin to which one he meant... but guys still went to the one in Times Square. They walked the 8 blocks or whatever and joined us! Ron and I shared a skillet supper, which was simply delicious! Ron had a gift card for Anita's Gelato and so we all walked to the Times Square Anita's. There was a line and guys didn't want to wait....so they went on. We stayed and enjoyed! It was exceptionally good!! 😉 Put beef roast in the oven before heading to bed!
Sunday..... Our alarm rang off at 6! Had meat to work with....the roast was fork tender and I also sliced jalapenos for the top. Ron opened green beans....well actually the cans!! It was a quiet Sunday....we were 18 for lunch! We LOVE company, but we also love just being Sugar Hill. ( Laurence's got home on Sunday from their trip to Kansas ) Clay had the SS opening and Roger the sermon. Lunch was jalapeno roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, blueberry tapioca salad and butter horns. Bars for dessert. Had fun fellowship. We intended to go to Central Park to the zoo...to watch them feed the seals...but Ron decided to look it up and of all things it was closed for maintenance.... Sunday, June 15!! So instead, Clay's, Kendon's, boys and us walked south to the Alexander Hamilton house. Watched 2 short films, one was on the life of Alexander Hamilton and his death by a duel , a unreconcilable difference with another man. The other film was how they moved the house to its present location. Very interesting! The park ranger told us when we walked in, that we were too big of a group to join them for the 3:30 tour...we said that was okay... but then the park ranger was so nice and let us all go upstairs to look for 10 minutes before the 3:30 tour group. From there we caught a 1 train to Broadway and went to the kitchen/ grocery store called Zabars.... very interesting! Some went to a bookstore and some of us went to a store that sold lots of nuts, dried fruits etc. we stood on the sidewalk and sampled before heading back to St Nicholas Street. Kaitlyn's turn for supper... burritos, apple slices and green salad. Bars....men spent the evening playing a game.
Ron went on the tract tour with 2 of the guys on Monday....they were excited about finding a good BBQ restaurant....John Brown's BBQ. It was Kansas City based....even had Kansas City Chief banners!!!!! I haven't been to a BBQ restaurant since we landed in the city! I made Rocky Top chicken for supper and spent a little bit of the evening practicing for sing-out!!
Guys are home from Lincoln as well.... looking forward to Alex's supper!
So long and everyone have a good week!
Love, Mama Carol
