Memories made with friends, that will last a lifetime!
Good morning! The NYC skies are gray this morning, the air is humid! More rain on the way.... but we have had awesome weather in-between the rains! So should be no complaints from this apartment!
Wednesday..... laundry, been to the grocery store, Ron has walked up to the post office to mail a book back to Trevor, he left it here and wanted it with him in Russellville instead! Have plenty of leftovers for lunch, so just gonna sit down and type!
Thursday afternoon and evening.... fixed roast beef chimi's ( with leftover roast ) cheese sauce, sopa and green salad. We actually had supper early, as the boys were invited to Clay and Dana to play games this evening! Of course we were in bed by the time they got home, but reports were: they had a good evening! Sounded like the food was Oreos and brownies with chocolate frosting!!
Friday - the day held the usual household chores of cleaning the apartment and laundry... cooking... but first, Ron and I listened to Arthur's final practice of their school program. It was about the Apollo 13 mission, same program as Southern Ohio, which we listened to the day before. For supper I made meatloaf and macaroni and cheese. Jordan asked what was for supper? I said, ( the aforementioned food ) and I called it comfort food! He told me he never had the hang of why.... some food is called comfort food??? 😄 Home in the evening, guys did their cleaning chores. Spencer was on outside duty and he got lucky and got the grass mowed between rain showers!!!
Saturday - ugh, alarm rang off at 6...on a Saturday morning... indeed not a favorite! Got breakfast on for the boys and they left for Fleetwood around 9. A hour later than hoping too! They met some of the Fleetwood youth guys and went mountain biking! I was a little worried, as Mama's do... about their safety, but no one got hurt!! From the report, one did leave his bike at one point and jeans were mostly on the soiled side! Ron and I had a quiet day at home....did our work, I did a little grocery shopping, Ron went to 135th to Chase Bank for cash. ( Back to the safety issue, my heart was so warmed in devotions, as Spencer prayed to God, asking for no-one to get hurt! ) Back to our day, we left the house before 2 and headed to the Oculus and 911 pools and park etc. We hadn't ever just toured the Oculus yet fully and was surprised to find so much shopping! For clarification sake, not much shopping of our kind! Pretty high end shops! Did our usual people watching, at times it is like a comedy show!! ( Although for the record, never been to one! 😄) It was a fine day weather wise, so outside at the pools was very pleasant! Some windy....we sat by the survivor tree for some time! Walked up a flight of steps to this lovely little park and had a most awesome view of OneWprld, the plaza and surrounding buildings. Walked to Francus Tavern for supper. Good eating and a very fine atmosphere of " old"....think George Washington old!!! On home after that and enjoyed a quiet evening yet! Boys pulled in on Sunday morning, after a ball game yet on Saturday evening!!
Sunday - a full and busy day! Bowery Sunday! I baked easy pluckets and also made a dish of baked oatmeal for breakfast. Also got 8 cups of brown rice ready for the oven. First time for me to mess with brown rice, and it bakes a little different than white rice! I was thankful again to live at church, as I checked on the rice several times! We had company from Grandview Idaho and also Buhl. Dean, Deanna Isaac and 3 sons, as well as Maynard and Darla Unruh. Parents to Deanna. Jared, their son was in the unit here a year ago and his grandpa's hadn't got this way to see him and the city. Thus the trip back now to show his grandpa's around! They also are taking in Washington DC as part of their trip! Belleville was the congregation who came to help us .... David and Brenda, Cameron and Camille, Michael and Sabrina, Marlin, Paul and Julie....all Peachey's !! Maxo and Martha Berquiost? And Caleb and Lenora Litwiller and 2 little sons. Amanda Bender is auntie to Lenora and actually was in PA now and stayed with Caleb's other children. These are also Wilma Peight's people!!! 😊 A full sanctuary and a nice church service. Dean Isaac brought the message on Mercy and David added. Testimonies by Eric Iverson and Papa Isaac. Lunch was a chicken stack up with brown rice, cabbage slaw, corn salsa and La-Ha sauce. Poughkeepsie was there also, they don't stay for Bowery service, nor did the Isaac clan from Idaho. The rest of us left around 2:30 and first sang at the Fulton station, it went good, although competed with a noisy sound system! The security guards just looked at us!! At Bowery mission, Maxo spoke to the group, it was quiet in there, except for 1 man snoring!! Maxo had sat where they sit and he could talk from literal knowledge. Was interesting to listen to listen to him!! On home, Kendon's and Clay's stayed for supper. It was our turn, so we quick made a green salad and got pizza in. Guys stayed for supper yet....Wade needed to get to BTM for the van, on the way over, he remembered, that he forgot the keys!! So the other 3 jumped in Clay's car and took him the van key! Enjoyable supper hour! Guys packed out and headed back to Fleetwood!! 😄 It sounded like the Hartford guys also joined them! They camped out in a barn, down by some water, sounded like they didn't really sleep out in the barn? Hartford guys used a camper and our guys had taken a long their sleeping gear and slept on the grass! They attended Fleetwoods year end play day! Which was at some park some minutes away from Fleetwood! Memorial Day is when Fleetwood has their year end.
Our Memorial Day holiday was special! It was a picture perfect day! Got up early, did some laundry and ate breakfast. Left the house at 8:30... Rogers and us, grabbed a subway to 125th, then walked to the Harlem - 125th train station. @ 9:12, the train rolled in and Laurence and Bernice were on there! She told us the number of their car and we joined them, they actually saved seats for us!! I sat with Bernice, Ron with Laurence...we yakked some, looked at scenery some and were quiet some! A train is SO relaxing! Bernice attended many Becker memorial Day cousins reunions... Laurence told her to tell her family, they were having a Dirks/ Becker one today!! 🤣Got to the Stamford Connecticut station and Eric Pobee also boarded train! Then we continued on to Bridgeport CT and got off there! Eric loves his Connecticut and showed us some of the town square before walking to the ferry! Bought tickets for a one way to Port Jefferson on Long Island! Huge ferry, we boarded and watched as many cars also drove on. We snacked around before leaving... once in the ferry, Eric opened up his roller back pack.... wondered why he was pulling that along with him? He wondered why nobody asked him why? You know us Mennonites can be full of questions!! We all had to laugh! 😂 Anyway inside he had chilled coconut juice for everyone!!!! Lovely ride on the ferry, got chilly outside, so went in to sit for most of the trip! Lovely docking in the harbor town of Port Jefferson!! A seaside town.... beautiful, not scenery we are used to anymore!!! W come from the city of steel and noise! We found ourselves at a restaurant called The Steam room, mostly boasting of seafood fare, but did have a few other options for me to choose from! I chose chicken fingers and homemade chips! After lunch, we walked to the harborfront park. A total view of the bay, sailboats, yachts and the big ferry. Walked down on a pier, visited the sand beach, it was loaded with sea shells. Soaked in the sun and the beauty! Headed for a ice cream shop, which boasted of many more delicious food, then just ice cream! Found out Bernice doesn't care for ice cream! Blew my mind!! 😂 Then we started the mile and 1/2 , mostly steep walk back to the Long Island railroad station! Eric came with us part ways, then shook hands all around and headed back to the water....he was taking the ferry back to Bridgeport! Boarded our train to return to the city....a almost 2 hour trip, with getting out and changing trains once! I think we all took naps! Laurence's got off at Jamaica and Rogers and us at Penn station, caught a subway home. Once home, we did more laundry, ironed shirts, had some supper. A little sun burnt, but happy! To finish off the day yet....Ron and I walked to Riverside Park to view the George Washington bridge...on holidays, the bridge is lit up with white lights and it is pretty! Very pretty! We also have NEVER seen Riverside so over- run with people!!!!!!? Picnics all over the place....and music so loud! Guys returned from Fleetwood once again...vacay over!! 🤩
Tuesday- did more laundry, we are messed up schedule wise... with a holiday!! We left the house before 11:30 and walked to Lincoln! We were supposed to help at a event again! Stacy, our human resource lady messaged on Monday. Could the 4 boys, Papa Bear and Mama Bear help???? 😂 It is nurses month and they celebrate real there! Stacey told us to come to the auditorium and there was a talent show going on....so we listened to that! We were given hand clappers and little poms- poms to help jive!! Our guys absolutely loved the plastic hand clappers and noticed they brought some home with them!!! These contestants were judged and prizes given! Then our work began! 2 of the boys helped with ice cream bars, 2 did popcorn, Ron and I stood behind the prize/ freebie table and gave out capes, like think super man....only this was super nurse/ hero!!! We each wore one to show! A royal blue cape and ball point pens, that looked liked syringes!!! With red, yellow, blue or green liquid in them! Oh there was cotton candy also! And some took all 3 food choices!!! 🍿 Felt like one needed to eat super healthy for supper! The Cotton candy man said he was supposed to get ready for 500, but thought he did 250 candies. Oh first we gave out umbrellas, until they were all gone! Never did sing for patients yesterday! Made chicken fajitas with homemade tortillas for supper....home ALL evening long! Practiced songs and went to bed early!!
Lunchtime, end of news for this time! Bible study this evening, sing out and supper!! Goodbye!!
Love, Mama Carol
