A normal Monday....small mountains of laundry.
Hello!
Greetings from 3rd floor, our little safe haven from the busy city outside!
Too early to start with supper, making BBQ meatballs and ranch potatoes this evening. Made a pan of bars, for those of us who like sugar and chocolate! Lots of laundry today, ironed the hubby's shirts and other odds and ends.
Today, Wade and Jordan went to Lincoln hospital to work. Dexter, Alex and Dexter's sister and her husband went on tract route. We haven't seen anything of the tract people yet and the hospital boys just walked in.
Last Tuesday evening, it was Wade's turn to be chef....he chose brats in either a tortilla or hot dog bun, sweet potato fries and Caesar salad. Ron grilled the brats...we all enjoyed! ☺️
Wednesday afternoon, Ron and I were in the fellowship hall/ kitchen making 2 Greeley casseroles for Wednesday evening, ( which by the way, I forgot about putting Velveeta cheese in them! Kind of interesting tasting, with no cheese!!) Elsie brought some company down, Jayden ( Jaylin ) ? Smith and his wife and family from Dumas AK. Here name was Felicia....they served a tract term over in New Jersey, a number of years ago and were in the city for a couple of hours! So nice to meet them! Dexter took the Sugar Hill van and went to get his parents, Bryan and Melody and little brother, Dedrik. Although he is 17 and probably wouldn't like to be called the little brother!!! He was a fun mess!!!!! 😂 Full of energy ( most of the time ) and loved to eat. Nice to meet Bryan and Melody!! They both love to talk, so we had lots of good talks!! It was Bible study evening, Bryan's, Eric Pobee, Eric Iverson and DeDe attended and Clay and Dana....oh yes and Kendon and Kaitlyn and littles also were there!! Dexter wrote a lesson on God's greatest gift. A Easter lesson. For sing out this time, Ron put together a slide show with Easter songs and we sang off the wall.....was fun! Supper was in the fellowship hall, casseroles with fresh salsa and chips. Plus green salad and fried ice cream dessert. We were 19 for supper. Those that stayed for supper were everyone except Eric Pobee. Was a good evening! Bryan and Melody stayed in our spare room bedroom.... Dedrik was upstairs....
Thursday was shopping day, like normal....but short lists and we just cruised.... home in a short while.... Roger and Elsie were just getting home from Bowery and helped us carry in and put away. After a quick lunch, Ron and I jumped on the subway and went down to 109 NY Common Pantry....Ron and I had never been there to see where the boys worked! It was chaotic and busy, so very interesting to observe. Bryan's and Dedrik spent the day there, as well as Lamar and Tanis, when they arrived by Uber. ( Tanis is Dexter's sister and she married Lamar Classen. He is Wes and Jeanette's son. They live at Rector AK and were together in Mozambique as youth. ) So we were there for awhile and then headed back home! You walk a ways through the north end of Central Park and it was a awesome day, and we seen turtles basking on the rocks in the sun.
Friday was a cleaning and laundry day! Ron did the house cleaning mostly by himself....I was feeling a bit under the weather with the head cold that has been making it rounds. Absolutely no pep and energy. Later afternoon, I found a second wind somewhere....made oatmeal creme pies, think the Little Debbie cookies, they are so delicious! Megz forwarded the recipe! Ron grilled smash burgers....we were 7.... Bryan and Melody joined us, while their children went out for supper and whatever else they did....our other 3 guys went to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.
Saturday....the Toews left for the day....and us others had a late breakfast and were home until after lunch. I made deviled eggs and guys did their cleaning chores. We also practiced some songs for Easter program. We all lumched on leftover smash burgers and then the guys went to Central Park....Ron and I had spied a thrift store called Thrift land, by the BTM and wanted to check it out, so we jumped a train and went there! Lets just say, it looked like it was in the Bronx and we didn't see anything we couldn't live without!! So we came home! In the evening, Rogers, us 5 at the unit met Bryan's family at Grimaldi's for pizza! Delicious! Rogers and Bryans headed to Anita's Gelato at Penn Station and the rest of us walked the Brooklyn Bridge!!! Awesome, beautiful and gorgeous evening and lovely views!!! Then to Anita's Gelato.....such a good way to end a evening!
Sunday.... our alarm went off at 6:15 and Ron headed to the fellowship hall and kitchen and smelt ham on the way over already....it was a little dark.....grief! So I quickly combed hair and went down to take care of it....and then of all things....we decided it looked too skimpy, as we were planning on almost 30. So Ron went next door to Foodtown and sold out on ham! So we got 6# of chicken tenders out to thaw!! Cold water method in the sink. Ran back upstairs to stick baked oatmeal in the oven for 11 people, had breakfast and when everyone started gathering for worship service on Easter morning, I was still in Birkenstocks and Ron kind of in a everyday shirt! We grilled chicken during SS and the handy thing about living at church....you creep quietly up to 3rd floor, change clothes and Ron quickly showered and we join the rest of the worshippers for the Easter program!! It was HOT in the chapel!! It might have had to do with previous activity!! Had a good Easter program....2 quartet songs by the Toews bunch, 2 unit songs, trio by Kendon, Kaitlyn and Beth, Kaitlyn s first cousin from MI. She was here visiting Kendon's for a long weekend. The amazing thing is.... Bryan and Melody were her house parents in the Edmonton unit sometime ago!!!! ☺️ Songs by whoever wanted too....and a reading/ writing by Clay.... interesting and good! Lunch was ham, grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green salad, buns and deviled eggs. A raspberry/ lavender crunch cake with whipped cream! AND all the chicken was gone and 3/4 of the ham....we were 26... Had slightly over 20# of ham. Kaitlyn, Ron and I hid Easter eggs for little kids and big boys! They were good sports, to make it fun for Olivia and Thomas! Clay put 6 racks of ribs on the grill and babysat that all afternoon! Melody and I were upstairs and took naps.... Laurence, Bernice and Bryan went to Queens on a field trip to look up old stomping grounds! Ron was talking with Clay for awhile and then took a nap! Kendon's were out and about and Rogers.... don't know! We were back down in the fellowship hall for supper....Clay's made a great big supper of ribs, baked beans, sweet potato waffle fries and regular steak fries and green salad. Rogers baked monster cookies for dessert. We were 15, as Bryan's crew and Rogers also joined....fun....we tuned into Russellville and listened to Trevor's NYC report!!! It is so much fun to hear our boys talk about a city they love!!
I had 14 hours of laundry today! 😂 With a few brief intervals, when I forgot momentarily to restock the machines!!!
We said goodbye to Lamar and Tanis and the house is just us 6 again!! And rather quiet.... it's 9:30 and Dexter is in bed already!!!! More of us should follow!!
Sweet dreams! Have a good week!
Love and prayers, Mama Carol
