We say goodbye to Trevor... Hello to Alex...
Greetings of love from NYC! I'm enjoying a balmy 61* day, from inside!! I've spent the morning doing laundry, ironed 4 shirts, cleaned up the house, other odds and ends that accompany being a Mama in a boys unit! The house is quiet...and I've enjoyed every minute of that too! 🥰 I feel like a measure of sanity has been restored!!! 😂
Ron, Dexter, our new boy Alex met Clay and Dana? Not sure if Dana was with or not....and they cojoined themselves together and doing a hand out tract tour! They took a table along, with Spanish and English Bibles, Bible story books and of course tracts....and a couple of song books and they are having a little miniature Bowery Sunday session! I visited with Ron once and sounded like it was a huge success!! They were singing quartet!!! 😀 Wade and Jordan are at Lincoln hospital...I suppose getting their jollies with some of the folks they meet!!
Our new boy is Alex Koehn from Montrose CO! His parents are Troy and Janell. Janelle's parents, Dewayne Nickels were our oldest daughters LaNae's house parents in Window Rock!! We are enjoying Alex very much already and he looks like a excellent fit for the unit. It is enthusing to watch him in the city, so many firsts!!! He is feeling a bit overwhelmed and I heard Jordan and Alex yesterday saying, " doesn't it feel almost surreal? You have to pinch yourself once in awhile, to make sure this is really real!!"
And we miss Trevor, as we do all our guys who leave.... Papa and Trevor were messaging a bit yesterday evening and I could have cried at the sound of his voice! Dexter is good at imatating and this morning, he walked out of the kitchen, and this voice says, sounds good....and it was just too much Trevor!!! I smiled and laughed....
Rogers have company....their daughter Julie who is married to Levi Mayeske from Fredonia. Their married son, Eric and his wife Rayanne arrive either this evening or tomorrow....
Trevor's eat out was Monday evening....it was a surprise to where we were going?? Dress code for the men was suits!!! 😉 So , how shall Elsie and I dress?? We wore nice clothes too! I jokingly said, I should have borrowed a dress from Ellen Brown!! We went to Temple Court and contrary to what you all might think, prices weren't as high as you might imagine!!! A very nice evening and GOOD food! Came on home and had ice cream, crackers and cookie pizza yet!!
Ron just messaged, correction on some tract hand out details! Dana is now meeting the guys, they messaged Roger and yes, Levi and Roger wanted to come, then the women felt left out, so they were going too! 🥰 I said to Ron, well I'm blogging and still have laundry going, so I guess I will stay home! Plus it's quiet down in Rogers apartment for me to go with them....and I have never went on the subway by myself yet!!
Tuesday is Lincoln hospital day!! We walked to and fro from the hospital! We spent the whole hour singing in 8C.... One lady requested we come back to her room and sing a 2nd song! One man was very talkative and gave the mission $20. The guys are laughing at Dexter, as he laughs at himself....he offered a tract to one man, asking, " do you want to read some Christian literature? The guy says no, because I'm blind and Dexter replies, " I see!!!" Dexter is so goofy anyways with jokes and puns intended so much of the time!!! 😂 We went with the guys to 9th floor to see Ms Taylor, Damarius and Darling!! The ladies were telling the boys that Papa' s must not like them!! They don't come up to see them!!! They are crazy fun ladies....had to get pictures, since Trevor was leaving! Just 5 of us home for the steaks that Papa grilled....I also added baked potato and a green salad. Dexter went to meet family friends from Alexandria Ontario for supper!
Wednesday morning we were delighted to have Randall and Roberta stop in for another 1 hour! Been on the east coast visiting friends and relatives and attended a class reunion at Homeworth Ohio. That was neat to visit with them and show them around our building! Bible study in the evening was in Rogers apartment, due to the on- going mess in the chapel, with those new mini splits going on!! We all like the cozy feeling though for Bible study....DeDe and Alistair were our visitors.... locals....Wade wrote the lesson on Peace in a troubled world, mostly taken from the tract. DeDe asked to share with us all and so she did.... lots about her journey....we felt like we were sitting in heavenly places!! Guys went down for sing out and I went upstairs to cook a bit and spent the rest of the time at Rogers. Clay's and Alistair joined us for supper! Fixed Creamy chicken and rice, Dana brought cabbage salad and I had buttered and warmed up French bread....mocha dessert for sweet partakings!! After Clay's left, we had book and street signing yet!! The guys also called Alex and he was busy then, so he called back!
Jordan and Trevor got up early and went to some meeting/ breakfast with Alistair....I fixed breakfast for the other 2. I also had a eye doctor appointment and he said it all looked terrific!! So he said just to call in, when I wanted to do my right eye and continue eye drops till the 10th of May, but only 2 times a day! We went to Harlem Shake for lunch, because fridge was getting mighty bare!! Hamburger was messy but good flavor....and the napkins were hardly napkins, more like tissue!! Shakes were ok, but tasted more artificial, or something!!! Won't complain, just stating facts!!! Once home from that, we had shopping to do yet!! 3 Dumas guys arrived at noon.... Trevor's friends.... So Trevor out with them for supper...us 5 home, little bored and blue....well really not bored!
Friday was a FULL day of laundry, cleaning 4th guest quarters in the evening.... Trevor hurried to pack and then out on the city, with his friends. Trevor and his friends got going about 7:40 that evening....goodbyes were said, hugs were given and then everyone ran down stairs, besides me...and I stood in the living room window and looked out and cried....the 3 boys and Trevor got in the rig and soon vanished into the night.... driving all night to get to Monterey TN for a wedding on Saturday. Papa grilled chicken for supper and us 5 ate and thought, talked some and was some sad. Ron and I did some cleaning.... later we started throwing lame jokes around, made us feel better to laugh!!
Saturday was a BUSY day of cleaning! We had church cleaning... after all the mess from the project of getting those mini splits installed. ( Not quite done, the sheet rocker is back today yet! ) There was dust and filth everywhere....Papa told the boys at the breakfast table, that church cleaning was priority and our/ their work came later! Which Papa did run upstairs and clean Trevor's room and I had a bunch of laundry also. It was fruit basket upset, with boys switching rooms! Clay and Dana came to help and that was much appreciated! So 9 of us cleaned church, fellowship hall and kitchen!! Had pizza for lunch in Rogers apartment....AND our work and the boys all got done also. Alex was about a hour late into LaGuardia.....and by the time he deplaned and waited and waited on his luggage, we were at the airport kind of long....3 boys just went dressed as street guys.....the anything goes... type of fashion. Alex spied Papa and Mama standing a little ways away by a pole!!! 😀 To Jackson Hole for a late supper and home late... must have been 11 or better. Couldn't find a place to park close, so parked on Edgecomb and walked in!! We don't talk about what goes on the night, that stays at Sugar Hill!!!!! 😂
Sunday morning..... everyone in good spirits at breakfast table, including Alex!! Church...we were around 27 today.... Clay had SS opening and Dayo had the sermon....his message being on Divine Assurance Policy and using the story of Joseph as his example! Once he looked straight at Alex and asked him something, as if he was Joseph and Alex read a verse out of the Bible, where Dayo had been reading.... Only at Sugar Hill!!! 😉 Sonja, a attendee came to our apartment before church in search of nuts to eat! So I showed her shelled pistachios, trail mix loaded with nuts, another nut mixture with bits of dark chocolate....oh, she thought the guys ate healthier than this....she then asked, what I had in the pantry? I said I have almonds in the freezer....no, don't get those...then I thought of some peanuts and cashews that I had...oh yes...she took some peanuts and on her way down stairs, seeing some of the guys shoes, remarked about the big feet and went on down!! Only in NYC!!! 😂 We love them though! Lunch was meatloaf, crock pot potatoes, green salads and French bread... butter finger desserts and bars! I made 3 recipes of frock pot potatoes and was a little too much!!!!!! They will be blessed a few more times!! In the afternoon, Kendon's, Clay's, Dexter, Jordan, Alex and us went to Pier 57, Little Island and Chelsea Market! Was so much fun and so relaxing!!! ( Wade wasn't feeling well and opted for a nap instead!) Truly, the good times roll!! Dana's turn for supper, we feasted on quesadillas and toppings, cheese sauce and chips... fruit tray. Bars for dessert!! A game was played and then later we had a good time chatting with Dexter and Jordan, after all others left and went to bed! We seen Monday morning and then went to bed!!!
So ends another week of rehashing what went on....we covet your prayers! Life is good, can be somewhat challenging at times, but the good so out weighs the bad!
I thought everyone was gone, but I heard footsteps on the stairs, so who was that??
Rogers and Levi's were starting to paint in the fellowship hall this morning! No pain, no gain....so the mess will be tolerated and then life will go on again!
Love to all, Mama Carol
