"" If you see the light, then come to the light..."

It's March 24, time to send out another blog! I was thinking while I was ironing shirts today, life is so ordinary already here in NYC and yet with that being said, new impressions happen right along! So I will once again give you a glimpse into our lives!
My title today refers to Trevor's devotions on Sunday morning. It was his turn and I noticed he didn't have his Bible, nor SS book, nor any other material. ( Trevor, Wade and Jordan went to the 911 museum on Saturday and he instead told of something that had impressed him. ) Somewhere in the museum he read how, when the rescuers were looking for survivors in all the rubble, debris, crevices, they would shine their lights down into the rubble and debris and when they heard something, they would tell the survivor, if you see the light, then come to the light! It deeply impressed me, for some reason. How very true!
It's Monday, it gray, drippy and making wet outside. I understand, maybe spring holds quite a few days like this?? Been busy, laundry, some extra today, with bed sheets, blanket and towels from 4th. Plus it seems like we all had our fair share of much laundry also! But we did enjoy the 2 friends that came to spend some time with Dexter. They are both from Kenora Ontario. James Warkentin and Jerick Penner or was it Jared? Both were kind and fun loving....Ron did clean the apartment upstairs! Bless his heart! I did some cleaning in ours, baked a pan of bars etc. This evening is Trevors eat- out, seems to be a surprise to where we are going?
Louis, a street preacher on weekends is here these days, with 2 helpers.... installing 4 mini split units. 2 in the chapel and 2 in the fellowship hall. So it is making a mess, but will be so much nicer then the window air conditioner units. On Friday, both Roger and Ron spent quite a bit of time down there "babysitting""....other words would be....making sure that not too many un- necessary holes get cut into the sheet rock!!! Ron came back up here after lunch and was kind of shaking his head as quite a few more holes have been cut!!! Necessary or no, time will tell!!
Fed Ex, Amazon and UPS make lots of trips to 762 St Nicholas Ave. One in particular last Monday was 28 boxes of tracts! Ron was the only man home, so had that job!!
Tuesday afternoon, our usual singing at Lincoln hospital. Several nice encounters again... 1 lady was still eating her lunch, yes, she agreed to a Gospel hymn....as we started to sing, I noticed tears slipping down both cheeks, after we were done, I lingered a bit and stepped up to her bed and said you need a hug....my heart aches, as I hugged and she had a sob stuck in her throat....I know God surely blessed my black lady friend! Sang for a dying grandmother, family cried as we sang, another lady on a ventilator, the relatives called out her name, but unresponsive....but did she hear the singing anyway? Thou thinkest Lord of me.... leaving the hospital, we stopped by a street vendor and Ron purchased a smaller body bag, to carry a few things with him. His back pack sometimes is too cumbersome! Then we stopped at Manhattanville, a coffee shop! Enjoyed the little break at table for 2. On home, later in the afternoon, we had " staff meeting" as Roger calls it....us 2 couples?!! 😂 Got some things decided and talked about! We dined on chocolate covered almonds and the guys had Cokes. Trevor's turn to cook and he did a mystery supper!! All by himself!!! He cooked in the basement kitchen....got groceries, came upstairs every now and then and with Trevors signature grin on his face!! Oh, we are going to miss his smile! He invited Rogers to come up also....so we had papers to fill out....all NYC themed of course! It was so much fun!!!! We had to laugh at Elsie, she got her ice cream first and no silver ware, so she somehow, gracefully even, got it licked out of her paper bowl!! Jordan ate chicken Alfredo with his fingers....my courses were as follows:
1. Water, fork and fruit salad
2. Coffee, ice cream and spoon
3. Chicken Alfredo, Texas toast and napkin
And just for the record, I drank my whole cup of coffee, with a little ice cream to help!!!!!
This is what the correct menu was:
Chrysler building: spoon
Louis Vuitton: fruit salad
Central Park: Texas toast
Statue of Liberty Cruise: water
Empire State Building: Ice cream
Hudson Yards: coffee
34th St Penn station: chicken Alfredo
Brooklyn Bridge: fork
Times square: napkin
So that was alot of fun, most of us helped Trevor clean up. Poor boy....he walked or ran up all those stairs MANY times ! He got his exercise!!!  We did meet him on the stair way to the fellowship hall at times, to get our plates.
The windows on 3rd floor got washed!! I mentioned it one lovely day to my hubby and he did them!!! It's interesting, in a apartment building!! I helped him hold some of the big window panes!! I said to Ron , please don't drop the rag!!! 😂 Ron has the 4th floor to do yet!
Wednesday evening was Bible study , lesson was on Joy... Alistair was our only attendee...sing out and then upstairs for supper! Clay's were here of course. Supper was beef and beans taco stack up!! Elsie brought frozen fruit salad and I also made a ice cream dessert.
Shopping day on Thursday, home in record time!!! In the afternoon, Roger and Ron went to New Jersey and bought a new pellet grill....old one was kaput....
The best thing about Friday was ...in the evening!! After supper, Rogers, 3 boys and us headed to Martha's for cheese cake 🍰!!! Ah.....we met Dexter and afore mentioned friends there also! Couples share a slice...don't knock it till you try it!! ❤️
Saturday, Dexter and his friends left before breakfast, catching some bagels on their way. The other 3, after cleaning chores went to 911 museum. Ron and I went to Chase Bank for more cash for boys lunch money and allowances. Also to Central Park and bought a painting of NYC with our money....and the painting found a home on our bedroom wall!! We took down the barb wire, dried flowers arrangement, it had served it's time well....flowers were awful dusty!! We came home to grab some lunch and then we assembled 4 pans of lasagna, as the crowd for Sunday kept growing with each message on the phone for a bit! It left me in a tailspin for awhile and I struggled to get my ducks in a row, sometimes wondering if they were still all in the pond!! But as usually happens with me, just give me some time and I calm down!!! We were going to be 40 and ended up being 54!!!! Saturday evening, met the guys at JG Melon, a burger joint, that some of the Kennedys also ate there!! Good burgers and cottage fried potatoes! Stopped at a ice cream store on the way back to Subway.
Sunday dawned and I felt good and refreshed!! Ron opened 18 cans of green beans, the pint size can.....I made breakfast....8 youth from Fleetwood, the Hartford Connecticut unit, house Papa's, mission workers and tract couple and the children involved with these couples. 2 girls from Linden Alberta...here for the coffee show in town. Names were Emma Reimer and Krista Boese. Greg Klassens, I regret not remembering the ladies name. They had 2 children as well and Jesse and Louann Fast from Iroquois and their 2 children AND Kendall and Tenille Koehn from Homeworth Ohio with their little girl Lily. Tenille is Clay's sister!! Greg's are from Rimbey...Jesse and Greg old unit boys.... singing went great....oh one more thing....Kansas folk love the east coast. One of Fleetwoods teachers is Paula Koehn from Moundridge...Steve and Vianne's....and Douglas Unruh from Suncrest was at Hartford....Shelby and Rayleans boy!! 😁 Oh Nicole Toews is teaching at Connecticut...she was also present. Kendon had the SS opening, Ron had some sermon thoughts, Jesse and Kendall added. Lunch went fine and good...youth all sat in chapel to eat...or mostly.... subway singing in the afternoon, usual place....the little girls handed out children's Bible story books and tracts... cutest thing! On to Bowery....it was just Connecticut, Kendon's, Clay's , Rogers and unit by that time....all other good people had dropped out! Taylor, the tract man at Connecticut had the thoughts there. Home, completely exhausted! Kaitlyn made supper, roast beef sandwiches, chips and apple slices. Dessert was ice cream and some of Elsie's leftover dessert. Games were played after supper....
Well I have wash to fold, day is wasting!
So long, love from the city which never sleeps, Mama Carol
