Time is gliding like the shuttle of a weaver...the days merrily slip by and so far no blog this week!
Good day to all!
It's bright and sunny here in the city, although chilly outside, was 6* this morning. But of course to our dear Kansas folk, that might be considered balmy! Not much snow to speak about!
Today is the day to tear out old shower in the master bathroom ( creating a mess, no pain, no gain they said! ) Ron is the tear it upper and Roger hauls said products away! In black plastic bags, down several flights of stairs, keep in mind and how the product is going to be disposed of, is anyone's guess, or anyway Elsie and I don't know?! Roger and Ron had their patience tested yesterday morning at Home Depot. Shower was in, but the paper work.... Sugar Hill is tax exempt, but to get that off the bill wasn't t happening! So finally they were to see the 4th Lady about this matter, but she wasn't in. So finally left it all there, said be back at 3:00 and it will brought to the front! Long story short, when arriving at 3:00, no shower in front, in fact the men help load it in back!!!! But the tax got taken off in a moments time, given the right employee! Sometimes we feel like NYC is a international city!!!! This evening is Bible study and sing-out and supper! AND laundry day and cooking supper, so my day is cut out for me!
Back to the 10th, Tribeca evening, so left the house at 6. Sang 5 songs, Wade had some thoughts and Trevor wrapped it up well! Sang another 5 songs, ending up with " Just As I Am ", a selection from the audience! Trevor picked Bubby's for supper! They serve pancakes all day, but also have a dinner menu. Good food, but SO LOUD in the restaurant!! Elsie and I sat right next to each other and had to talk loudly to hear each other!! A trivia game was also going on.... over the speaker!
Here it is, Thursday morning! I'm waiting on Ron to get home. Roger and Ron went to Home Depot for plumbing supplies and once Ron is back, we will go shopping and Roger will work on plumbing. Oh, they also needed a couple sheets of Sheetrock also.
Last Tuesday the 11th, off to Lincoln to sing...we had this fellow following us around on the one ward, he was a tad simple and loved to talk. He blessed the guys over and over. We stepped up to this one room, a lady in bed and her man was just leaving, he turned back and told his lady, here ate the guys who will pray with you! So we sang and then Trevor led in prayer for Esther! The nicest prayer, without knowing any circumstances. Trevor's evening to cook, he cooked lasagna, strawberry tapioca salad and green beans! Delicious!
Wednesday the 12th, we jumped up from the breakfast table, guys helped clean up. Ron and I needed to be downtown by 9:45. I had made a appointment for my pre-op visit, before my laser cataract surgery is done on the 25th. One just takes a wild guess on where to go.... actually checking out on Google and reviews. I liked the Dr. really well. A short exam, a blood test and he filled out the paperwork. They called back from the Dr. next day and my A1C number had slipped up again, so need to watch sugars. Evening time was Bible study... lesson was on Temperance!!! Interesting discussion! Alistair and Eric were there, but Alistair did not stay for supper. Chicken enchiladas, Elsie brought rice and I also fixed a green salad. Baked a cake for dessert. I baked a white cake mix, then put a cream cheese mixture on, when baked, it looked like moon craters!!!!!
Thursday the 13th.... shopping day.... nicest thing about today was....my boys came home from work and Dexter was holding roses and said these are for you! Happy Valentine's Day! So how is that for a heart melter! I did warn the boys, Mama does cry at odd moments!!! Supper and then Ron, Roger and the boys left for the evening!!! ( Elsie and I just stayed home, she came up here for a little while. Neither one of us comfortable with going out in the city, just us 2 women! In the dark..... not the safest.) Anyway the guys drove into Yonkers to Stew Leonard's, a grocery store, although styled like Ikea somewhat. You must walk down every aisle, in order. BUT the reason for going was the ice cream! Roger adores ice cream!! And when they got to the ice cream store, it was closed.......The guys felt sorry for Roger and it also struck their funny bone!! Dexter said, Rogers jaw just dropped to the floor and that is a long ways!!!!!! 😂 They stopped at another ice cream store on the way home! But they bought lots of goodies from the grocery store and it was a hoot when they got home! 4 guys around the table, just pigging out! Jordan didn't even take off his trench coat and hat, he looked like a German dude sitting there!!!
Happy hearts Day! ❤️ I made maple scones for breakfast with a splash of coffee in the icing!! Our 2 new Lazy boy recliners were delivered!! Those 2 delivery boys just bounded up all the steps, holding onto the chairs.... I tried saying something to the 1 young man and he looked at me blankly and I realized he only spoke and understood Spanish!!! The other one wasn't much better!!!! ☺️We love our new Lazy boys!!! One of the old ones was so sun burnt, it was a blue color, but back had changed to a shade of purple!!!! Guys came home with 3 cheese cakes from Dede and so after supper, we invited Rogers up and had a cheese cake party!!! I had fixed pizza, bread sticks and green salad for supper! The dough was still that free stuff from the pantry! Gluten free, hard to roll out.... somehow the rest of dough just disappeared!!! Shhhh.....
Saturday....guys took the van and went to New Jersey for the day!!!! To the American Dream Mall....had a indoor snow boarding feature! Ron and I did our own thing, called it our celebration for our 42nd wedding anniversary, which was the 18th. We went to Strand, it's a bookstore, proclaiming it has 18 miles of books!!! And it does have more books, then I think I have ever seen in one place! From there caught the subway and some lunch at Steak Shack and then spent the afternoon at the 911 museum. Its an amazing place! One thing that really struck me was the quiet and hush that falls over each museum goer.... sobering....very. I'm sure we did not see everything! When we exited, it was raining/ snowing, but we had our rain jackets with, so you just walk anyways!!! Came on home. Oh before I forget.....we got lucky...2 times today...in the subway car.... breakdancing!!!! Amazing stunts and strong!!!!! You got to see it, to believe it!! I think our boys were a tad jealous... because they hadn't run across that yet!! Trevor nade reservations for 9:00 at Paulie Gee's for supper! So back out into the wet and cold! Some awesome pizza!!!! We ordered 3, inhaled and ordered 1 more, that one being the best!! Home around 11!! We did a lot of walking and climbing stairs.... I was exhausted! After all I am 60!!!
Sunday, the 16th.... Laurence and Bernice were back from their Arizona vacation! SO good to see them!!!!! Poughkeepsie came.... usual group otherwise. Alistair, Simon, Eric and Sonja for locals...oh Tony too. Laurence brought the SS opening and Dayo the sermon. Oh I wish I could understand them better! Bernice thought I wasn't getting it..... lunch was Spring Roll chicken bowls. Sat and visited a long time with Rogers, Laurence's and Eric. after dishes this was. Ron and I got naps and later, Kendon's, Clay's and boys came home. They explored Chinatown! They all came back around 5:30...Dana's turn for supper! She made chicken street tacos, rice and black beans. Rogers came up too.....lots going on!
Now it's Thursday afternoon, went shopping, got everything put away, lunch down the hatch, just leftovers and Ron got busy with shower. I marinated some pork tenderloin for supper.
( Back to last Thursday evening, some may wonder why is women didn't go with? Public transportation doesn't hardly go that far....van only sits 6....it seems logical to leave the women home, so that was that!!!!!!! )
Monday the 17th, Ron went on tract route with Trevor and Wade. Route was in Manhattan, so done by noon. In fact they stopped at a coffee shop before coming back Ron stayed home and boys jumped on Subway and handed out tracts. I had laundry, then had more laundry...I went upstairs for a wash basket and noticed guest apartment toilet looked yucky, so flushed, still kinda did, so flushed again and toilet overflowed! So mopped that up and had towels and bathroom rugs to wash.....I could have cried, was/ had already felt down.... like I say Ron stayed home after we ate lunch, took care of toilet and washed toilet and floor!! Just that morning, Jordan had devotions, he read in Kings, where the widow had her son gather up all the vessels and the cruse of oil never ran out....and Jordan likened that to God's Grace and how that never runs out....we just have to avail ourselves of that grace. So I just kept plugging along, mood lightened and had a good day! I got a Oreo ice cream dessert in the freezer and made a green salad. About right at 4, Elmer and Mary Ellen came!! So good to see them!! ☺️ Guys were home already, Rogers soon came home from their day holiday in New Jersey. Laurence and Bernice soon were here too. Eric also came.....men all sat in on orientation for Jordan. Roger grilled 12 New York strip steaks....and we had supper in the basement. Elsie hurriedly baked potato's!! Us ladies just gabbed in our apartment, while men were busy. After supper, we had a visit and started some arrangements about Papa Isaac's retirement party from the ministry. Party, May be out of place here!!! ☺️ I should say occasion!!!! Got a few things staked down and arranged. Elmers left to go home, as Laurence's Elsie and I did dishes, men cleaned up. Ron brought home yellow/ orange/ pink roses for our 42bd anniversary!!! I'm feeling loved!! ❣️
Tuesday.....💞 Rogers and us jumped in the van and headed to Fishkill NY! More snow out that way AND there is actually life beyond the city!!! First stop was Walmart!!! Ron and I just sat in the van....next stop was the Town Hall and purpose for trip. We have the building rented for Papa Isaac's deal and needed to bring a down payment
We also toured it and found out what we could use and what we couldn't! Especially helpful to know about the kitchen. Cracker Barrel for lunch and then headed home.... stopping at Stew Leonard's!!! Bought eggs for 1 thing... BJ'S last week was completely out!!! Pay $12.99 for 18 eggs!!! Then we went to get ice cream and vanilla and chocolate ice cream was not available..... machines were down....Roger says what??? 3 of us settled for strawberry ice cream and Ron had vanilla yogurt. Home and then the Home Depot story. I cooked Navajo tacos for supper and boys enjoyed that! The evening was spent with picking songs and doing some practicing.
Wednesday..... laundry, demolition of old shower and just an interesting fact....I watched this morning as 2 garbage men loaded up old bathtub, old sheetrock and hauled it all away!! I also cleaned up house, and cooked! Bible study and sing-out! Eric was the only one to join us....and he doesn't stay for supper! So we were 10!! Rogers and Clay's joined us 6. White chili, lime tortilla chips, veggies and odd assortment of pickled okra, olives and pineapple! ( Guys have visited the pickle man! ) Plus Maple twists, we won't say how many some ate!!! 😂
Caught up with now! House is quiet now....so life continues in it's pace! We smile, we laugh, we get frustrated, we cry, we love each other!! And Ron and I love the boys, are lives truly has been a game changer!!!!!!
I better send this and sign off.
Love and prayers, Mama Carol
P.S. Remember us at the throne of grace also, thanks.
