Oh there's Joy in the journey, good times in the going...
Good day to all! It's a bright beautiful day in the city. I threw on some socks, shoes and a coat and headed to Food Town for a few groceries, just inside the door, stood our friend Los, and he said Hi Mama!!! He likes to fist bump with Papa!!! I believe actually he deals with drugs, but so often he is standing just inside the grocery store doors, sharing his smile!
Today is laundry day! The last load is in the washer! Well now actually the dryer..I was home alone until right after lunch! Ron was back from tract tour/ hand- out. They went to Broadway today and just walked....Ron came home in part, because this homeless guy kind of sidled up to him and began filming Ron ... what he was doing and just followed Ron. Ron didn't want to go down into the subway with this fellow, so when he had a chance, Ron got out of there,!! Wade was soon home, he reported a very slow morning at Lincoln in the ED....so instead decided he could use his time more wisely and do some of his training modules. I have some pork butt in the oven for supper, baking.... gonna add corn flake potatoes and green salad and fruit.
News from last week, last Tuesday, mostly fun day!! In the morning, Ron and I worked at home, then bundled up and walked several blocks to the Post office. Came home and warmed up lunch, leftover spaghetti and meat sauce. Jesse and Dexter joined us and basically finished the leftovers. Then we all headed to Lincoln for 1:00. Sang with the boys and had some rewarding experiences again, especially up in the ICU wards. After we were done, we went to HR, ( human resources) so we meet Stacey in the hallway. Just the person we were wanting!! We go back to HR and wait a bit, then she sends us to 3rd floor to the training room and to meet Kimberly! First impressions of Kimberly were not overly pleasant, she seemed somewhat brusqe and all business! She told us to get on the computer and she would help us! It took a bit to find a computer that wasn't already logged into. So anyway completed the last training, Kimberly printed out our certificates and sent us back down to Stacey! We waited quite a while on her, she was on lunch break....( At 4 something in the afternoon) Taleet, a friend of Rogers spied us and told us to come on back and sat me down in Stacey's office and we waited there. When Stacey got back, she put us in the system and sent us back up to 3rd floor, police department for the hospital. AND we got our badges!! Felt so accomplished! I could have shouted and sang! Took the bus home, well got off after 2 stops and walked to Bronx Terminal Market. We needed to buy pork meat, Ron put it in his backpack and we walked home!!! Dexter's turn to cook....he made hamburgers, sauteed mushrooms and onions and baked French fries. Made coffee cake for dessert! Delicious!!
Wednesday, laundry day and cooking....Ron went down town for a haircut. Ron went to the same place, the boys go and you leave 50 bucks for a haircut, of course Ron doesn't have so much hair anyway, but he did come home with a lot less!! In the evening was Bible study and sing-out. Dexter chose the lesson on The Privilege of Prayer. Eric was our only visitor this evening. Had a good discussion. After the guys and Ron were done singing, Rogers and Clay's came upstairs for supper! Had chalupa, fruit pudding salad and peanut butter bars. Guys got into math equations, puzzles and things that didn't make no sense!!!
Thursday, guys split into 2 groups, some went to the pantry on 109 street and some back to the Bronx pantry. Ron and I went shopping! Our first stop was Home Depot and ordered the new shower kit for our master bathroom!!! Should be at the Home Depot by Thursday the 30th. Target and BJ's and home again! Double parked, just until we had groceries unloaded. Thursday evenings entertainment was Scrabble!! I mentioned at supper to Ron, that we should play Scrabble this evening! Everyone joined in....had 2 game boards, so 3 at each! I played with Jesse and Dexter! And I learned that Yeet is a word!!! Had fun!!
Friday, the 2 most remarkable things about today were:
#1:Guys came home from pantry, each with back backs laden with?? Pizza dough!! All from Trader Joe's!!! #and # of it! I hardly knew whether to laugh or cry!! So I messaged with Elsie and we took it all down stairs and have been freely sharing!!! Laurence"s, Clay's and Kendon's.... Mifflinburg was here yesterday, they got endowed with our bounty and we have some left to make some Pizza and bread sticks here!
#2: the unit was invited to Clay and Dana for supper and so with pleasure we drove over to Queens. Definitely a different vibe over there.... beautiful little apartment.... stream lined and modern! Clay's had shrimp skewers, grilled chicken thighs, Caesar salad and sweet and white potatoes mixed...Dana said to eat it all and so my boys did!!!!!! Dana fixed ice cream and baked chocolate chip cookies for a later dessert. Clay and the guys settled in to play a game. Home late, couldn't find a parking place, so Jesse dropped us off and Jesse and Dexter scouted for one and found on Edgecomb.
Saturday, laid back day for me....had a migraine, haven't had 1 in years!!! Did meet the guys for supper at Jacksons Hole.... not the one we stop in on the way home from the airport....we agreed, that we liked this one better! Delicious hamburgers!! Ron and I shared a Peanut butter smash burger with fries. It was so good, even though I didn't eat much! They went to shop yet, we came on home.
Sunday was Bowery Sunday! A group from Mifflinburg joined us, already for morning worship! 2 couples, David and Jeanette Swarey and John and Misty Wengered and must have been 9 youth. ( John is Israel:s son.) Singing for 15 minutes, SS opening by Roger, SS, sermon/ thoughts by David Swarey. We were 37 or so for lunch.... Haystacks and fruit salad and 2 kinds of desserts....both involved coconut, so if you don't like coconut, you were out to lunch! We all left by 2 or shortly thereafter....set up in the subway station.....some of us sang, and some handed out tracts and Bible story books. Eric, Dede and Tony went with! Then off to Bowery, room was full, by the time it was said and done. Bunch of songs and Ron brought thoughts and Kendon closed in prayer! One of the Mifflinburg youth boys didn't get on with us all at 1 subway, but he caught another train and found the Bowery! Once back at Sugar Hill, Mifflinburg left, Rogers, Kendon's, Dede and us unit enjoyed the taquito supper put on by Clays!! We were down stairs in the fellowship hall and kitchen for that. All left earlier this time, exhausted and had a jig day! Back in our apartment, Trevor went to bed and us other 3 sat and visited. That is what memories are made of!!
Trevor has a head cold that has made him feel nasty.... guess what, Ron and I caught it too!! Wishing for feeling better days!
Dryer is done, should go work on some supper details!
Love to you all from Sugar Hill Mission! Carol
