Walking the George Washington bridge and other activities in our life at 762 St. Nicholas Ave.

Hello, it's evening time ...Ron and I holding down our recliners after a busy day! Dexter left his work a little early and went out on the city this afternoon and evening. Meeting up with his Uncle and family and spending some time with them. So we were just the 5 of us for supper....I fixed baked chicken with potatoes and carrots on top and it was a hassle getting the meat tender this evening and some of the potatoes stayed a little too firm for my liking! The guys are so good about it all and said it was good!! Bless their hearts! I told Ron I was some food/ cooking inferiority's!!

We have a new boy! Wade Zimmerman from Hillcrest WI. Wade arrived on Saturday evening. His parents are Mark and Denise. Hesston folks, remember Denise Koehn , she taught at MCS!! AND Thomas went home and we miss him!

Ron went on tract route today, senior boy Jesse and Wade went along. They had hamburgers at some diner for lunch? I had the apartment to myself, but had a busy day of laundry and ironing shirts. I do not iron the boys shirts, that is up to them. But for interest sake, I counted shirts today and with Ron's, I hung up 33 shirts! This includes button down to t-shirts.

Back to last Monday, the most memorable event of the day was after supper! We all rode the subway to Martha's Pantry for delectable cheesecake!! Ah, it was SOME kind of good!! Ron and I shared a slice of Chocolate chip cookie cheesecake. Definitely will go back sometime!

Tuesday morning, it is my breakfast making morning off...so we slept till eight.  What was funny though, Thomas and Trevor slept till 9!!! They came down with sheepish grins. Jesse and Dexter had got up early and went to Bowery. Thomas and Trevor went to Lincoln hospital to work. Ron and I went to Barnes and Noble for books.... for our gift exchange this evening. Thomas called and said we should be to Lincoln early.....so we were just home, and soon boarded a bus for Lincoln. Such a beautiful day....as in Christmas/ Christian witness. Stacy, one of the ladies there, with which e have to do.....took us all over the premises.....and we sang and sang! Clear down to the basement, sang to employees in the kitchen, the sterile room , walked through the storage warehouse and we got so many favorable responses!! Truly, I felt a new inspiration for what Christmas really means!! Spreading Joy....a photographer walked with us for some of the time!! Our favorite song today was Away in a Manger...4 parts, that is one pretty song!! Fixed lasagna, garlic bread and Caesar salad for supper! Set the table pretty like....but guys don't notice or don't care!!! In the evening, we had our gift exchange. I got a beautiful book, Snow in NYC!! Nice pictures in it. The guys played the Construction game.... eating and drinking and being Merry!!

Merry Christmas! I got my potatoes ready for lunch, made white, sweet potato and onion layered ones. Clay smoked tri-tip , Roger and Ron grilled rib eyes and NY strips. Christmas goodies for dessert!! Fixed breakfast.... busy morning. Laurence's, Clay's , and Dana's parents , Wally and Brenda, Kendon's, Eric, Rogers and Kyle's, their children from Maine....fun day....in the afternoon, everyone ended up in our apartment!! Supper was back down in fellowship hall. I fixed pepperoni dip with chips and Roger made popcorn! More Christmas goodies, leftover graham cracker fluff etc. Eric brought 10 bottles of sparkling cider....in between all this, I had the usual Wednesday laundry!!!! Kendon's came back upstairs to our apartment and they played games. Once Kendon's left, the guys started the Oil man game!  Fun Christmas!!

Thursday was shopping day! So Ron and I headed to Target, BJ's and Food Bazaar. Ron and I are getting better at shopping! The guys were just hob nobing at home, so Ron called them and they came down to help cart it in, what amazing help!! I warmed up some leftovers for us all. Thomas's eat-out was this evening and he chose Trinity restaurant and bar. It is in a old bank, like in the early 1900's ......The 2 HUGE vault doors are there weighing tons.....fine dining.....a nice experience! 3 had salmon, 1 had steak, another had duck leg and I had Cavatelli.... with chorizo sausage in it. On the way home, we went to Anita's Gelato....ah super yum!!
Friday, we all left for the airport @ 8:00!!! AM!! So with tears and a hug, we let Thomas go..... once home, Ron and I cleaned..... laundry etc. The 3 boys went shopping and I warmed up chimi's for lunch. Early afternoon we left for New Jersey, to go to Kendon's.....the guys took their ice skates along and had a grand time on the pond behind Kendon's house! Kaitlyn was busy getting supper, and I helped her. It was Thomas's 2nd birthday! Roger and Elsie came by the train. Kaitlyn served stromboli, Elsie and I brought corn chip salad.  Kaitlyn decorated a cake, Thomas blew out his candles...and we all gave him gifts! Fun birthday party! Guys sang in the evening and then we made the hour and more trek back.

Saturday, a rainy day...all 5 of us at home all day....till evening time! Guys had chores and then much work went into imitations for the new guy! We left the house shortly after 6:30, airport bound. We won't say how the guys dressed, think causal, like weird casual! Wade was in on time and we ate supper at Jackson Hole.... it's a diner! Ron and I shared a burger.....huge burgers....guys of course all got their own. Home, Jesse gave Wade a quick tour! Off to bed and at 2 am, the ruckus began upstairs.....many alarm clocks, talking over a PA mic, much hooting and hollering, and after 30 minutes or so, quiet once more reigned!! Wade took it all well!!

Sunday....we were just a small group...Clay and Dana were both sick...our attendee Ellen, had her daughter Ellen from London with her....she was interesting to visit with! Normal church...Roger had opening and Ron had the thoughts. Lunch was white bbq chicken, corn flake potatoes, green salad and butter horns. Cherry cobbler, just fresh out of oven with ice cream! After lunch, Laurence's, Kendon's, guys and us went to walk the George Washington bridge. First we had a history lesson in the Washington heights area. Laurence's showed us where they used to worship and live. The apartment building door bell still says Penner! Walking the bridge was so much fun and good exercise!! Back home, Kendon's came upstairs and spent the evening. I fixed chicken/ bacon wraps, had chips and carrots. Brownie sundaes for dessert. We tuned into Wildwood MI to listen to Randy and Rachel's report on Sugar Hill!! So so interesting!!

Have a busy week ahead, but sounds very fun! Let you know later how everything goes and what we do!!!

So long for now! Love from Sugar Hill, the mama!! :)
