my evening off from cooking, how fun is that?

Greetings from NYC! Like I mentioned, it's my night off from cooking, watching Thomas cook chicken fajitas, rice and fresh salsa...oh, and I think beans also. Thomas has Trevor gainfully employed in making the fresh salsa! :) Bless their hearts!! Dextar is writing his Bible study lesson for tomorrow evening and Jesse is reading! One of our daughters said that I should introduce our boys...I will:
Thomas Dyck - Hesston KS, goes home December 27
Jesse Barkman - Swalwell Alberta
Trevor Holdeman - Russellville AK
Dextar Toews - Kenora Ontario
So, we like them all really well!
This morning, Ron and I went shopping, were gone from home around 2 hours. I didn't think that was too bad considering shopping in NYC is somewhat different then Dillons or Walmart. We park the van in a parking garage and then you wait by someone else's car and when they get done putting groceries in their rig, you get their cart! You probably won't find a cart in the store! Pay for your items, then cart everything to the van and go to the next store and repeat. We often park the van at the BTM garage, so the mission pays $200 a month to do so...when we drove in today....we didn't know to go about this....so got another ticket and paid $5 for parking!! We are learning!
This afternoon I baked sugar cookies, frosted and decorated them....they are for Christmas program and snacks on Thursday evening. I want to cover pretzels this evening yet. Elsie was baking pepper nuts this afternoon, talk about yummy smells penetrating upstairs!!
Last Friday evening, we decided to eat out as a unit....we were gonna eat at Paulie Gee's, a good pizza place....but mixed that idea, when we were told, that we wouldn't get a table till 9:30!! Found Kestane Kebab, a Mediterranean restaurant. Just a small place, but with yummy food! Ron and I both had chicken shish kebabs. After we ate, walked down to the water and bought tickets for a water taxi ...... awesome night time views of the NYC skyline!!! Filled my little heart with a sense of wonderment!! Got off at Wall St.  and took subway home.
Saturday....a day of busyness, meeting and making new friends! Mifflinburg youth and leaders came to the city to carol and asked us to join them! We put on a sloppy joes lunch, pickles, cheese, chips and bars. We ate quickly like and divided into 2 groups with a leader for each....and Ron and I were to stay on the back of our group...we caroled 3 places, to Roosevelt Island to the Wengered market, to Grand Central station, we sang outside beside the Vanderbilt tower. Last we went down to Hudson Yards, a mall for the rich and the famous!! Plus a beautiful plaza and all, very beautiful lights! We sang outside on the plaza, very chilly, so we moved inside the mall. We found out we needed a permit or something, which we didn't have, so asked to leave! Done anyway! It was at Hudson Yards though, that we had the biggest interest!! Back to Sugar Hill for supper. Mifflinburg bought pizza, wings and brought green salad and bars. A fun day , but tiring....Ron and I had a 10# meatloaf to put together yet!!!!!!
Sunday... just a quiet day...only company was Tyson Berniko.....Ron had opening and Roger had sermon/ thoughts. Us ladies had a very interesting SS....one never knows, whatt thoughts will come forth from Ellen and Sonja!!! Lunch, fun fellowship... In the afternoon, Clay and Dana worked on a flannel graph lesson for the Christmas program....Kendon 's, Laurence and Bernice, Eric, unit boys, Rogers and us worked with Christmas tracts and inserted a Sugar Hill Mission invite and QR code. Later Kendon 's and Clay's came up to 3rd floor....the men sang and sang.....us ladies visited...I read to Olivia -4 and Thomas -2 sat with Pops Ron a long time after his nap. Kendon 's and Clay's went to Queens to Laurence and Bernice for supper. The unit guys and us feasted on leftover pizza and guacamole and chips.... strange combination...I know...just had some over ripe avocados to use!  In the evening, guys played a card game and we listened to Hesston youth program.
Monday, I did laundry and then I did laundry....I did bake de granola and chocolate chip cookies. In the evening, was service at the Tribeca shelter...
Rogers also go a long.....or are in charge....we sang 10 songs and Trevor brought some good thoughts. Ate supper at De Genero...a Italian restaurant, very tiny place and loud...but good food!! Went to Anita's Gelato and that was some kind of good!! Home on the subway....a evening of walking, climbing steps, subway trains, service, food and fun!!
Well I think supper is about ready!!
Next couple of days promise to be just as busy!!
Later, Mama Carol
